Wine Heritage in Catalonia

For our astute oenophile member, we crafted an extraordinary journey through Catalonia's lesser-known but equally captivating wine regions.
While many enthusiasts gravitate towards the renowned vineyards of France and Italy, we curated an exclusive experience that unveiled the hidden gems and passionate artisans pushing the boundaries of Spanish viticulture.

Catalonia, nestled in Spain's northeast, boasts two principal regions that captivate the sophisticated palate – Priorat and Penedès. Priorat has been gaining international acclaim for its exceptional Bordeaux-style blends, anchored by the distinctive Garnacha or Samsó varietals. Penedès, Catalonia's most expansive and prolific wine region, is the birthplace of Cava, Spain's celebrated sparkling wine.
Recaredo
This family-operated winery in Penedès exemplifies artisanal craftsmanship in sparkling wine production. With an annual output of merely 300,000 bottles, Recaredo adheres to biodynamic and sustainable practices, maintaining traditional methods such as manual riddling and manual disgorgement. We arranged an exclusive estate tour for our client, featuring tastings of both still and sparkling wines, culminating in the privilege of sampling a 6-year-old bottle disgorged à la volée in the cellar, just for them.
Clos Dominic S.L.
Nestled in the quaint town of Porrera, this Priorat gem offered our client an intimate encounter with exceptional winemaking. The estate's La Tena vineyard boasts century-old Garnacha and Carignan vines thriving on precipitous slopes. Our curated experience included a private tour of the vineyard, an introduction to their artisanal olive oil production, and invaluable time spent with the passionate winemakers and growers, providing unparalleled insights into Priorat's unique terroir.
Juve y Camps
This esteemed Penedès winery, producing up to 3 million bottles annually, is renowned for its La Familia de la Reserva cava. We secured our client access to their state-of-the-art facility, recently renovated to blend tradition with innovation. The exclusive visit featured cellar-disgorged bottles and a comprehensive tasting, showcasing the depth and complexity of their acclaimed sparkling wines.
I had no idea Spanish wine could taste like what I tasted on this trip. I had previously tasted all the “standard” varieties like Rioja and Albariño, but I enjoyed styles and flavors I didn’t know were possible in Spanish wine. Recaredo was a particular highlight – their cava is one of the finest sparking wines I’ve ever enjoyed.
